Arcserve Invents Affordable Disaster Recovery with Near-Zero Recovery Point Solution
“There’s a huge difference between business expectations and what many IT teams can realistically deliver, particularly in midsize and decentralized organizations,” said Edwin Yuen, data protection analyst at ESG. “The challenge is not so much getting systems back online quickly after downtime or disruption, but avoiding the loss of business activity by being able to access current data. Arcserve has successfully addressed this challenge by combining quick recovery of current data, or low RPO and RTO, with a direct-to-cloud deployment to offer many new opportunities for these organizations and provide a path to more flexible SLAs and lower on-premises complexity.”
Arcserve Honored with 2017 Tekne Award
Arcserve was named winner of the cyber security category for achievements in securing networks, computers, or systems from unintended or unauthorized access such as in the case of a ransomware attack, through its disaster recovery solutions. With an astounding annual growth rate of 350 percent, the scope and scale of ransomware attacks have proven that every type and size organization is vulnerable. Because of the rapid pace by which new variants are produced, 70 percent of the companies attacked have fallen victim to ransomware that bypassed security and successfully encrypted their files.

Arcserve Outpaces Industry Growth for Third Consecutive Year; Moves Closer to Market-Disrupting Disaster Avoidance Solution
“It’s been just over three years since we gained our independence as a new company, and, while we’re extremely proud of our financial growth, we’re even more excited about the industry-transforming technical foundation we’ve built,” said Mike Crest, CEO of Arcserve. “As we move forward, we remain squarely focused on empowering our customers and partners to achieve true disaster avoidance; in fact, we intend to release the first phase of these capabilities considerably ahead of plan.”
Arcserve Acquires Zetta, Enterprise-Cloud Disaster Recovery Provider
“Organizations of all sizes are looking to cloud technologies as part of their IT acceleration strategies; especially with regard to backup and BC/DR. Arcserve is making the right strategic move at a critical juncture in this market,” said Jason Buffington, principal analyst at ESG. “The addition of Zetta is clearly a good fit for mid-market customer needs today. Zetta’s leading cloud technologies, combined with Arcserve’s rich data protection solutions, provide a compelling breadth of capabilities that demonstrates Arcserve’s continued evolution and reinvention in this market.”
Arcserve Acquires Email Archiving Technology; Brings First Unified Data Protection and Archiving Solution to Small and Overstretch...
“Regardless of the size or complexity of an organization, email archiving is a fundamental part of any security, IT and document management strategy. Aside from the more obvious use cases associated with long-term email retention, an advanced archiving solution must also simplify email search and recovery, and enable users to optimize email server storage,” said Andrew Smith, Senior Research Analyst, Storage Software at IDC. “Arcserve is entering a highly competitive email archiving market, but its proven backup capabilities and established reputation in the industry make archiving a valuable addition to its portfolio. These new tools should resonate well with Arcserve’s target market, particularly midsize and decentralized enterprise organizations seeking to improve compliance and reduce risk.”
Multi-Practice Healthcare System Selects Arcserve to Modernize its Fully-Virtualized Environment
In its search for a more sophisticated data protection offering, Compass Health considered Acronis and Veeam, among others; however, chose Arcserve UDP, which it deployed via Arcserve’s appliance modality. “I was pretty much sold right from the get-go,” said Carl Seabold, Director of IT, Compass Health. “Nothing in my mind could top what Arcserve could do with our virtualized environment. Acronis didn’t have the tech that I was looking for and Veeam had issues doing granular data recovery.”
Leosphere Speeds up Backups and Increases System Availability with Arcserve and Nimble Storage
Leosphere decided to migrate to a virtualized infrastructure, currently supported by 12 physical servers. This infrastructure hosts part of Leosphere’s information systems, including its intranet site and file servers. The company called on its IT partner, Cap Antigone, to define, supply and implement the new infrastructure. The plan was also to replace Leosphere’s nearly saturated storage environment, as well as assess and select a secure, automated backup solution for superior performance.
Ransomware: Security or Recovery?
Remediation is possible without opening your Bitcoin purse by using comprehensive backup and recovery software. Please see my other blog about best practices to protect your backup server. With the Arcserve UDP, you are uniquely positioned to get your systems back in the way they were before the attack, or to selectively bring back the data you need and bypass that boot locking mechanism for example. What about creating a “QA” environment to test the recovery? Keeping an offline copy of all your backups is easily done through UDP’s Jumpstart capability, or by making tape copies of your data store. Recover physical or virtual systems to dissimilar hardware or another VM – it’s piece of cake with our solution.
